Homemade Dried Mushrooms – A great way to dry your own!

Many people have a car, but not a dehydrator, right? Well I have used my car for years for drying an array of fruits including tomatoes, apples, bananas, peaches and apricots.

But what about mushrooms?

Yes, they also work easily and a glut of reduced mushrooms in the supermarket is the way to make good use of them!!

You need a nice warm, sunny day day and a way to park the car with the windscreen facing the sun.

Simply slice your mushrooms, and place them on kitchen paper on a cooling rack (you need the air to be able to circulate). Now place the mushrooms on the dashboard of your car, close the doors and go and have a cuppa!

After a couple hours you can check and turn them and just leave them in the sun until the sun goes down. By then they should be beautifully dry and you can pop them in a sterilised container. They keep for a good 6-12 months and are always to hand when you need them.

To rehydrate, give them a rinse under cold water, then cover in a bowl with boiling water. Leave them for about 20 minutes and you are good to go!
